Adam Savage from Mythbusters Explains “What is a Maker?”
The Philosophy behind the Makerspace
We believe everyone is a maker. Creativity belongs to all of us, and access to tools, knowledge, and space should never be out of reach. As a not-for-profit organization, we reinvest everything back into the space—supporting classes, equipment, and the community that make us thrive.
Our Core Values
- 1
Community Collaboration and inclusion are at the heart of everything we build.
- 2
Active Mentorship We learn by doing, teaching, and sharing—every member has something to contribute.
- 3
Inspiring Creativity Experimentation, curiosity, and even mistakes are part of the process.
- 4
Having Fun Making should inspire joy, playfulness, and connection.

Attend a Class
Classes are available to everyone, whether you are a member or not. When a class has a limited number of spots, members get priority registration.

Host a Class
Hosting a class is only available to members. We work with our hosts to develop a class that will attract students and provide value to the community.

A group is a great place to work on a project alongside makers with a variety of skills. Members can attend group sessions for free, fees may apply to non-members .

PLA Pick-up and Recycling
The Alberni Valley Makerspace recycles PLA plastic waste by turning it into usable products and material with our recycling program, Vancouver Island Plastics. We are asking the community to bring in their 3D Printing waste to us at 3620 3rd Ave, Port Alberni. We will also be opening PLA pick-up sites up and down Vancouver Island. If you have a publicly accessible business and want to help recycle PLA plastics we’d love to hear from you.
